Western Exhibitions will be presenting new drawings by Elijah Burgher and Ryan Travis Christian and acrylic paintings on unstretched canvas from the mid-1980’s by Faith Wilding at the 2017 UNTITLED Art Fair in Miami Beach, Florida.

Elijah Burgher was included in the 2014 Whitney Biennial (selected by Anthony Elms), the 2014 Gwangju Biennial (as part of AA Bronson’s “House of Shame”), The Nothing That Is at the Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh, North Carolina, and The Temptation of AA Bronson at the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam and his work has been shown in Berlin, London, Paris, Stockholm and Mexico City. He’s been a resident at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the Fire Island Artist Residency and his work has been discussed in The New York Times, Art in America, Art Review, Artforum, Secret Behavior and was included in VITAMIN D2, the hardcover survey of contemporary drawing. He received a MFA from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago and a BA from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY. Elijah Burgher is represented by Western Exhibitions in Chicago and Horton Gallery in New York City. He lives and works in Berlin.
Ryan Travis Christian’s solo and two-person shows include the Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh, NC; The Hole, New York City, Guerrero Gallery in San Francisco, Halsey McKay in East Hampton, NY and Cooper Cole in Toronto, and has been included in group shows in London, Rotterdam, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Baltimore, Dallas and Los Angeles His work has been written about in frieze, art ltd, Art Papers, New American Paintings, Daily Serving, Indy Week and the Associated Press. New City named Christian as one of Chicago’s “Breakout Artists” for 2010 and named by the same publication as one of Chicago’s “Top 50 Artists’ Artists” in 2012. DAZED recently named Christian as one of the “top ten artists working with monochrome.” He is represented by Western Exhibitions in Chicago and lives and works in the Chicagoland area.
Faith Wilding received her MFA at CalArts in 1973, where she was a founding member of the Feminist Art Program, first started at Fresno State. She contributed “Crocheted Environment” and her “Waiting” performance piece to the historic Womanhouse exhibition in 1972. Her work has been exhibited extensively over the last five decades including the seminal survey WACK! Art and the Feminist Revolution, organized by Cornelia Butler, which traveled from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles to the National Museum of Women in Washington D.C., PS1 Contemporary Art Center in Queens, and the Vancouver Art Gallery. Wilding’s work has been exhibited at Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid; Centre for Contemporary Art in Glasgow; Bronx Museum of Art in New York; The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York; the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles; The Drawing Center in New York; Documenta X in Kassel; and the Singapore Art Museum. Publications include By Our Own Hands: The History of the Women Artists Movement in Southern California, 1970-76 (Double X, 1977) and Domain Errors! Cyberfeminist Practices! (Autonomedia, 2003).
Wilding was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2009 and has been the recipient of two individual media grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2014, she was awarded the prestigious Women’s Caucus for Art Lifetime Achievement Award. Most recently, her work was included in Fiber: Sculpture1960 to Present exhibition that originated at the ICA in Boston. Her current solo show at Western Exhibitions, Un-Natural Parables, in Chicago runs through December 22, 2017.
